In a meeting with Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali on Thursday, he said the UN would “closely” work with Bangladesh particularly in preventing violent extremism in line with the UN chief’s Plan of Action to Prevent Violent Extremism.

Apart from discussing ways to counter terrorism and violent extremism, they also talked about the next month’s UN General Assembly in New York, and undocumented Myanmar nationals in Bangladesh.

The foreign minister told Watkins all the perpetrators of the July 1 attack will be brought to justice.

The UN official appreciated the government for carrying out a census on the Myanmar refugees.

They hoped that with the new government in Myanmar, the stalled process of repatriation of the refugees would be revived and resolved.
