Shahjahan was shifted to an Upazila hospital after complaining of chest pain at home early on Monday, Sakhipur police station OC Moklesur Rahman told bdnews24.com.

The doctors declared him dead after he was brought in.

His funeral prayers will be held at 2 pm at the South Plaza of the National Parliament, said a statement issued by the Parliament Secretariat.

63-year old Shahjahan won the Tangail-8 seat without a contest in the 10th parliament elections held on Jan 5 this year.
He was first elected MP in 1986.
Shahjahan was again elected to the parliament in a by-poll in 1999 and then again in the Dec 2008 national polls.
He chaired the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Agriculture Ministry in the 9th Parliament and was a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for Liberation War Affairs ministry.
Born in 1951, Shahjahan studied at the Bangladesh Agriculture University in Mymensingh, where later he joined as a teacher but left the University to pursue a political career.
