RAB ADG Ziaul Ahsan promoted, made director of National Security Intelligence

RAB’s additional director general Ziaul Ahsan has been made a director of National Security Intelligence (NSI).

The colonel has also been promoted to brigadier general.

 

RAB-11 Commander Anwar Latif Khan has replaced Ahsan, the elite police unit said in a media release on Thursday.

 

Khan has been promoted from lieutenant colonel to colonel.

 

The release said Lt Col Khan joined the new office on Wednesday.

 

Brig Gen Ahsan also joined his new assignment the same.

 

He took over as an ADG of the force two and a half years ago and made headlines several times for his remarks and allegations brought by justice seekers.

He joined RAB-2 as its deputy commander on Mar 5, 2009. He was a major then.
He was promoted to lieutenant colonel the same year and took charge of RAB’s intelligence wing as its director on Aug 27.
He was made additional director general (operations) on Dec 7, 2013.
Ahsan was commissioned in Bangladesh Army on June 21, 1991. He is a commando and skydiver.

He received Bangladesh Police Medal and President Police Medal, both on two occasions, while in RAB.

 

His colleagues said he played key roles in the arrests of top leaders of militant organisations Jama’at-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Harkat-ul-Jihad-Al-Islami (HuJI), Ansarullah, owner of collapsed Rana Plaza, Sohel Rana, drug lord Amin Huda, and many others.

The RAB release praised Ahsan for his role in recovering Tk 160 million looted money, preventing theft and trade in newborns, drives against adulteration, and preserving wildlife.
The new RAB ADG, Col Khan, joined the force on May 13, 2012. Besides RAB-11, he had led RAB-5 and RAB-7.
Bangladesh Army commissioned him on June 9, 1992 after he completed the 26th BMA Long Course.
He served as a staff officer in East Bengal Regiments 3, 4 and 14, President Guard Regiment, and 24th Infantry Division.
