Dhaka, June 15 (bdnews24.com) — Investigators of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) are questioning Jamaat-e-Islami assistant secretary general Abdul Quader Molla at 'safe home' on war crimes charges.
The interrogation started at 10am and will continue until 5pm with an hour break from 1pm to 2pm on Wednesday, ICT investigation panel acting coordinator M Sanaul Haque told bdnews24.com.
He said jail authorities took Molla to the 'safe home' around 9am and the quizzing started at 10am after his medical check-up.
A doctor from Dhaka Central Jail and advocate Farid Uddin Khan, a lawyer for Molla, are there in a room of the 'safe home'.
Molla would be sent back to the jail after the interrogation, Haque said.
A house at the city's Dhanmondi that the ICT investigation panel is using to quiz suspected war criminals is called 'safe home'.
The ICT on June 1 permitted the investigation panel to quiz Jamaat leaders M Kamaruzzaman and Molla one day each.
The panel on Sunday issued letters to lawyers for Kamaruzzaman and Molla informing them about the interrogation dates.
In the appeal to quiz Molla, prosecutor Syed Rezaur Rahman said there had been progress in the investigation into allegations against Jamaat leaders Matiur Rahman Nizami, Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed, Quader Molla and Kamaruzzman.
He said Nizami and Mojaheed were grilled earlier and it was necessary to quiz Molla and Kamaruzzaman to crosscheck the information got from Nizami and Mojaheed.
"More evidence are to come against them. Specific allegations are being found against them that they have committed atrocities and led crimes against humanity during the Liberation War," he said.
On July 13 last year, police arrested Molla and Kamaruzzaman in a case filed with Pallabi Police Station, accusing them of being involved in mass killings during the Liberation War.
Later, they were shown arrested in a case filed with the tribunal accusing them of committing crimes against humanity.
