The platform also ‘hopes’ the president will not pardon the convicts.
“We welcome the petitions,” Ganajagaran Mancha Spokesperson Imran H Sarker told on Saturday afternoon.
“Through the petitions, they have admitted to murdering so many people,” he said.
“At least, they have realised after so many days that they did commit crimes and now they are repenting,” he added.
Sarker also termed these petitions ‘only a formality’ and ‘hoped’ that the president would not grant the convicts mercy.
“There are two sides to these trials – the war criminals and the people of Bangladesh. The president is a freedom fighter. He certainly can’t pardon [them] while going against the people’s expectation,” he said.
“We hope, as these are unforgivable offences, the president will not pardon them. They will get the punishment they deserve,” he added.
Ganajagaran Mancha, which was formed to press for the demand of the highest penalty for war criminals, has been staging a sit-in programme at Shahbagh demanding  execution of BNP leader Salauddin Quader and Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mujahid.
