State Minister for Telecoms Tarana Halim told bdnews24.com on Monday "The ISPs will block the sites which are being generated within the country."

On Nov 28, the ministry formed a committee to block pornographic websites and stop publication of offensive contents.

The committee was given the responsibility of preparing a three-level technical proposal by listing such websites and told to submit it within 15 days.

Minister Tarana Halim had said at the time that the process to block sites would start after the list and proposal were made available.

She, however, said on Monday that a hundred percent success was tough as such websites were being generated everyday across the world. "But it would be a huge thing, if we can even hit 70 percent."

The government will also hold talks with ISPs (internet service providers) and international internet gateways (IIGs) on the matter, said the minister.

According to the telecoms regulator, the number of internet users in Bangladesh now stands at over 66.8 million. Of them, 63 million access the internet through mobile phones.
