Limon told bdnews24.com on Sunday while undergoing treatment at the capital’s Ganashasthya Kendra, “The NHRC chief called me and my mother Henoara Begum at his office at around 12:30pm.”
“He [Mizanur] told me in front of my mother, ‘I had a word with the Home Ministry, they might withdraw the two cases filed by RAB. In that case you will have to withdraw your case too’.”
“We were also told to consider it as a proposal and not to make any requests regarding the issue,” Limon said.
However, Mizanur could not be contacted for comment.
The NHRC chief had expressed deep frustration after Limon was injured and visited him in the hospital.
Earlier, the then Jhalakathi Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Biswas had also asked Limon and his mother to drop the case against RAB.
Henoara had filed a petition at a Jhalakathi court challenging the police investigation report that found no evidence against the elite force, which in a so called gunfight injured Limon, a college student, on Mar 23 that year. His leg was amputated after the incident.
Earlier she had filed a case with Rajapur Police Station on Apr 10, 2011, accusing six RAB personnel of attempting to murder her son.
Police on Aug 14, 2012, submitted its final investigation report in the case, saying that the allegation of trying to kill him was unsubstantiated.
However, the Jhalakathi Senior Judicial Magistrates Court on Feb 13 this year had rejected Henoara’s plea for further investigation. Then she pleaded at the District and Sessions Judge Court on Mar 19 against the Jhalakathi court’s order.
RAB had also filed two cases with the Rajapur police against Limon and seven others under the Arms Act and another for obstructing official duty, making attempts to murder and injure RAB personnel. Police have submitted investigation findings in the both cases.
Proceedings of the all three cases are currently ongoing at the Jhalakathi court.
