BSMMU doctors performed a surgery on the 88-year-old to remove a brain clot on Aug 20.
"His (Matin's) heart condition is unstable, blood pressure is fluctuating," his brother-in-law Tipu Biswas told bdnews24.com on Saturday.
"He cannot move the right side of his body and is finding it difficult to move the left side as well."
The Communist Party of Bangladesh leader was hospitalised on Aug 18 after his conditions took a turn for the worse.
He was later shifted to the BSMMU where he went under the knife.
BNP spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir visited him on Saturday.
BSMMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Pran Gopal Dutta said the hospital was footing his bills.
Biswas said the doctors had assured them that "there is nothing to fear".
"He opens his eyes at times but his condition has not improved much," he said.
