'I lost an old friend'

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep sorrow at the demise of veteran journalist AN Mahfuza Khatun Baby Maudud.

A condolence message from the prime minister's press wing on Friday said, "The prime minister has expressed deep sorrow at the demise of renowned journalist, writer and former MP AN Mahfuza Khatun Baby Maudud."

"The nation has lost a dedicated journalist and a writer at Baby Maudud's death," Hasina said in the message.

The prime minister said Maudud was a trustworthy friend.

"In her death, I have lost a dear and old friend," she said.

The message said the prime minister recalled with gratitude Maudud's contribution in editing the unfinished memoirs of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She offered condolences for the bereaved family members and prayed for the peace of Maudud's departed soul.
