Hiron’s wife takes oath

Jebunnesa Afroz, wife of late ruling Awami League MP Shawkat Hossain Hiron, has been sworn in as a Parliament member of Barisal-5 constituency.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath at her office on Sunday morning.

The seat fell vacant after Hiron’s death on Apr 9.

Afroz won the June 15 by-poll by a huge margin, securing 183, 629 votes against her rival’s 6,136 votes.
