The court of Sundarganj Cognisance Court’s Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Md Moinul Hasan granted the lawmaker interim bail until the end of Parliament session, which begins on Sunday afternoon.

There is no bar to releasing Islam, currently in jail after being arrested on charges allegedly firing at fourth-grader Shahadat Hossain Sourav, said lawyer.

“The court has granted him bail while Parliament is in session,” said Islam’s counsel Sirajul Islam Babu.

Sourav was injured on Oct 2 when Liton allegedly fired at him. His father Shaju Mia filed a case against Liton the next day.

On Oct 8, one Hafizur Rahman filed another case against Liton and nine others accusing them of vandalism and looting, in which the MP had been granted bail.

Liton moved the High Court on Oct 12 seeking anticipatory bail but his plea was scrapped.

Detectives arrested him from Dhaka’s Uttara two days later and sent him to Gaibandha.
