The renowned ENT surgeon died at Lab Aid Hospital in Dhaka on Saturday afternoon.

He had long been suffering from old age complications.

The national doctors’ body, BMA, in a statement, expressed condolence over the death of the prominent physician.

Majed worked as the principal of Dhaka Medical College and dean of Dhaka University's Faculty of Medicine.

He played a key role as a leader of the professionals in the movement against military dictator HM Ershad.

Majed became the health adviser to the interim government led by Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed, which took over following the ouster of Ershad.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and pro-BNP Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) condoled the demise of Majed.

Sharif Nurul Ambia, the president of a Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction, and General Secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan also expressed their condolences.

He was buried in the family graveyard in Sirajganj's Ullapara after funeral prayers later at night. Funeral prayers were also held at Green Road Jame Mosque in Dhaka in the afternoon.
