At least 37 houses are being prepared in areas including Dhaka’s Minto Road and Hare Road —known locally as the “Montri Para” or ministers’ neighbourhood—for the new government’s ministers, state ministers, and deputy ministers.

Housing Advisor Adilur Rahman Khan shared the information with reporters at the Secretariat on Monday.

Asked about accommodation for the new ministers, Adilur Rahman said, “So far, we have prepared 37 houses. These are located in Minto Road, Hare Road, Dhanmondi and Gulshan. Preparations are under way to arrange a few more houses if needed.”

He added that some of the houses currently occupied by members of the advisory council are also included among the 37.

When asked where the prime minister’s residence would be, Adilur could not provide any specific information a day before the new government took power.

He said, “It will be done according to their wishes. A decision will be made following discussions with them.”

After securing an absolute majority in the 13th general election, the BNP is set to form the new government on Tuesday. Breaking long-standing tradition, preparations are underway to hold the swearing-in ceremony outside the Bangabhaban, at the South Plaza of the parliament complex.

Senior government officials and BNP leaders said the new cabinet, led by Tarique Rahman, will be sworn in there on Tuesday afternoon.

Earlier, on Tuesday morning, the newly elected members of parliament will also take their oaths at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building.
