A grocery store owner has suffered serious injuries after he was attacked in his shop in Dhaka's Shahjahanpur by a group of assailants, who slit the veins in both wrists and left him for dead.

The attack occurred around 6m on Sunday, just after Ruhul Amin opened his store on the ground floor of a building in Shantibagh. The attackers stormed in and blindfolded him before repeatedly stabbing him.

Inspector Md Faruq from the police outpost at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, or DMCH, said that Ruhul Amin was rushed to the hospital in critical condition around 8am.

“The 55-year-old trader is currently undergoing treatment in the emergency department. His condition remains serious.”

Describing the horrific attack, Amanullah, the victim’s brother-in-law, said, “As soon as he opened his shop, several men barged in, blindfolded him, and slashed the veins in both his wrists with a knife. They also inflicted severe injuries on his legs, chest and other parts of his body.”

“We rushed to the shop after hearing the news and found him covered in blood. Without wasting any time, we took him to DMCH,” he added.

When asked whether any cash or valuables were stolen, Amanullah said, “We can’t confirm anything until we check the store and until my brother-in-law regains consciousness.”

Ruhul Amin, a native of Brahmanbaria's Kasba, lives in a building near the Shantibagh water pump, which also houses his grocery store on the ground floor.

“The attack took place early in the morning, just after the victim opened his shop. It was brutal. We are investigating whether it was linked to a past dispute or if there was another motive. The CID forensic team and the Detective Branch are actively working on the case,” said Shahjahanpur Police Station chief Md Jahangir Hossain stated,
