Tk 60bn set aside for five local government elections this fiscal year, says state minister

The government has allocated about Tk 60 billion to hold five local government elections in the current fiscal year, Local Government State Minister Mir Shahe Alam says.

He made the disclosure on Tuesday while inspecting beautification work along the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar.

The polls will cover city corporations, municipalities, district councils, Upazila councils and union councils.

According to the minister, the government is committed to holding the polls and has asked the Election Commission to make preparations.

He also said initiatives would be taken to establish municipalities in Aminbazar and Ashulia.
