A freight train that derailed near Jhenaidah’s Kotchandpur Railway Station has been recovered, restoring all rail links between Khulna and northern Bangladesh.

Ripon Mia, station master of Sabdarpur Railway Station, said the derailing occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning. The train had been travelling to north Bangladesh from Khulna’s Mongla Port.

Twelve wheels on four wagons of the freight trail derailed in the accident. A rescue train dispatched from Ishwardi reached the scene and began conducting operations. Rail service returned to normal around 8:30am on Thursday.

Ripon said that after the accident, several trains were stranded at nearby stations. They have now departed for their destinations.
