Bangladesh Railway opens Eid-ul-Azha train ticket sales

Tickets for West Zone trains went on sale at 8am, while East Zone sales will begin at 2pm

Bangladesh Railway has started selling advance tickets for the first day of Eid-ul-Azha journeys, which start on May 23.

The tickets for homebound Eid travellers went on sale on Wednesday. For the convenience of customers, 100 percent of the tickets will be sold online.

Tickets for trains in the West Zone of the railway went on sale at 8am. Tickets on the East Zone will be available from 2pm.

The tickets soon ran out.

Kamalapur Railway Station Manager Md Kabir Uddin Mollah said, “The tickets for train seats on May 23 went on sale at 8am. The tickets for May 23 were sold out by 9am.”

The railway authorities say train tickets for the five days before Eid will be sold in advance under a special arrangement.

Tickets for intercity trains for May 24 will be sold on May 14, tickets for May 25 will be sold on May 15, tickets for May 26 will be sold on May 16 and tickets for May 27 will be sold on May 17.

According to the rules, a passenger can buy tickets for Eid advance journey once, with a maximum limit of four tickets per customer. Tickets for Eid advance journeys cannot be refunded.

At the request of passengers, 25 percent of the total seats (excluding upper class) will be sold from the train station counters on the day of travel.

In addition, there will be two special cattle trains for the transport of sacrificial animals.

These two cattle trains will run on May 22 and May 23. The two trains will depart from Dewanganj Bazar and Islampur Bazar and arrive at the Kamalapur, Tejgaon and Dhaka Cantonment railway stations.
