Police have arrested two men over the alleged rape of a housewife at knifepoint after holding her husband and child hostage in Narayanganj’s Rupganj Upazila.
The arrests were confirmed by Rupganj Police chief Sabzel Hossain during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon, a day after the incident.
The arrestees are Afzal Khan and Md Abbad, both aged 30 and originally from Tarabo.
The 25-year-old victim filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, naming Afzal and an accomplice.
Quoting the case statement, Sabzel said: “Around 4:30am on Monday, the suspect entered the victim’s house. They held her husband and 3-and-a-half-year-old child hostage at knifepoint.”
"The woman was then raped in front of her husband. Before fleeing the scene, the attackers also stole the victim's mobile phone,” the police officer said.
Police conducted a raid later that night and arrested the two suspects from the Dighibharab area, the officer said, adding that the stolen mobile phone was also recovered.
He said further legal action would be taken if others were found to be involved in the incident.
