Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman has said the government will take "strict and transparent action" against those involved in the explosion at a National Citizen Party (NCP) rally in Savar.
He commented on NCP leader and Rangpur-4 MP Akhter Hossen’s statement during a point of order in parliament.
Akhter demanded a proper investigation into the incident, the arrest of those involved, and security during the opposition party's political programmes. The NCP leader also sought an explanation from the government about the sudden power outage during the NCP event.
Asaduzzaman responded on behalf of Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, who was absent at the parliament session.
"We are definitely taking the matter raised by Akhter Hossen very seriously," said the law minister.
"We can assure you that if anyone is involved in this, we will take as much legal action as possible against them. The government will take strict action with transparency," he added.
Earlier in the day, a Dhaka court granted police two days to question two suspects arrested in connection with a crude bomb explosion at the NCP.
The explosion occurred around 9:45pm on Monday during the rally held after the party's “July March” at Tarapur Eidgah Ground in Savar, injuring three people.
Akhter, NCP Convenor Nahid Islam, and Chief Coordinator (North) Sarjis Alam were on stage when the blast occurred.
