While conducting a raid to arrest suspects in the robbery of a bKash agent in Dhaka’s Adabor, two police officers have been injured in a machete attack.

Two suspected criminals were also injured after police opened fire during the operation.

Fazlur Rahman, assistant deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Tejgaon Division, said a police team came under attack near Dhaka Udyan on Tuesday afternoon while trying to arrest suspects in the case.

Adabor Police chief Zahidul Islam and Sub-Inspector Tarun, identified by a single name, were injured in the attack by assailants armed with machetes.

Four suspects were detained at the scene, known only as Rubel, Kashem, Amir, and Joy.

Amir and Rubel suffered gunshot injuries after police fired during the operation.

Around 11am, robbers attacked a bKash agent at the entrance to Road No. 7 in Shekhertek and fled with Tk 350,000.

The victim, 39-year-old Shafiqul Islam, is an agent of the mobile financial services provider bKash.

He is receiving treatment at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).

Shafiqul’s elder brother Muslim Hossain said two men entered Shafiqul’s shop and tried to forcibly take money from the cash drawer.

When he resisted, they attacked him with a machete and took all the cash.

Following the robbery, Adabor Police investigating officer Hafizur Rahman said the suspects have been provisionally identified, and efforts are under way to arrest them.
