Recognition for distinguished service will see 107 police personnel honoured with medals during this year’s Police Week.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to hand over the awards on Sunday at Rajarbagh Police Lines in Dhaka.
Police policymakers traditionally look forward to the annual event, where officers are honoured for commendable work carried out in the previous year and senior officials get a rare chance to directly place their demands before the head of government.
But amid the election frenzy, the winter event has slipped into summer this year.
Police Week will feature a four-day series of events.
Officials at Police Headquarters said the force plans to raise six broad demands, including:
• Posting police officers to embassies and related institutions
• Establishing a central cybercrime unit
• Creating a separate medical service for police
• Setting up training centres in Sylhet and Barishal, and a specialised academy at Chattogram’s Jangal Salimpur
• Measures to improve officers’ physical and mental wellbeing and sports capacity
• Formation of an aviation police unit
