The Jamaat-e-Islami has expelled four individuals for assaulting journalists in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi during the founding anniversary of the Awami League.

The party announced the decision on Wednesday, saying the expulsions followed recommendations made by an internal investigation committee.

Those expelled are Jamaat Rukon, a senior member rank in the party’s hierarchy, Shafiqul Islam, party workers Khairul Alam Russell and Abul Kalam, and supporter Mamun Hossain.

Journalists came under attack in Dhanmondi on Tuesday.

Among those assaulted were Dainik Sakal multimedia reporter Mahfuzur Rahman Shishir and The News multimedia reporter Maruf Hossain.

At least 10 other journalists were allegedly harassed during the incident.

Following the attack, both the party’s central leadership and its Dhaka city units issued statements expressing regret.

Jamaat’s Dhaka South unit subsequently formed a four-member committee to investigate the incident.
