The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall across the country over the next five days as the monsoon remains active.
Meteorologist Mohammad Shahinul Islam said Dhaka could see showers on Wednesday, with rainfall easing on Thursday before intensifying again over the following two days.
In its 120-hour forecast issued on Wednesday, the weather office said a low-pressure area that had been over India’s Jharkhand and its adjoining areas had moved northwest and was now positioned over northeast Madhya Pradesh and its adjoining areas.
The axis of the monsoon trough extends from Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh through the centre of the low-pressure area, Gangetic West Bengal and southern Bangladesh to Assam.
From 9am on Wednesday, many places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and some places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka and Khulna divisions, may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds. Moderate heavy rain may occur in places across the country.
On Thursday, many places in the Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and some places in the Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions may see light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Moderate to heavy rain may occur in places.
The same pattern is expected on Friday, with many places in Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet and some places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram likely to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers. Moderately heavy rain may occur in places.
On Saturday, many places across all eight divisions -- Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet -- may experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty winds. Moderate to very heavy rain may occur in places.
Similar conditions are forecast for Sunday, with many places across all eight divisions likely to receive light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds. Moderate to very heavy rain may occur in places.
