The government will implement the Ninth National Pay Scale in three phases, seeking to contain inflation while easing the financial strain on public employees.
The related gazette will be published this week, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani said at a briefing after Monday’s meeting.
Explaining the phased rollout, he said the government had sought a balance between improving living standards and managing market pressures.
“Of course, inflation control has been taken into account; otherwise, the entire amount would have been paid at once,” he said.
He said putting more money into people’s hands would stimulate spending and growth, adding that those who previously struggled to afford groceries would now be able to buy more, including fish.
Under the plan, the new basic salaries will take effect from Jul 1, with the second phase beginning six months later and the final phase thereafter. Allowances will be paid together from January 2028.
Gani said the government expects to require an additional Tk 105,000 crore over three years, with the spending phased in rather than needed upfront.
He said details on time scale and selection grades would be announced after the relevant SRO is issued.
He also expressed hope that the new pay structure would accelerate the stalled Wage Board process, but declined to say whether around 500,000 MPO-listed teachers and employees would receive the benefits.
