“We are taking all steps necessary for the investigation," police say

A lawsuit has been filed in Dhaka’s Banasree over the shooting of a jewellery businessman and the robbery of his money and gold, naming “six to seven unknown people” as defendants.
Rampura Police Station chief Ataur Rahman Akand said the businessman’s wife Hosne Ara filed the case on Monday.
No arrests had been made until 8pm, he said: “CCTV footage from the scene and the viral video are being reviewed. The doorman has been questioned.
“We are taking all necessary steps for the investigation.”
Around 10:30pm on Sunday, the jeweller named Anwar Hossain was robbed just before entering his house on Road No 7 in Banasree’s D Block.
He runs a jewellery shop named Alankar Jewellers in Banasree.
After the incident, the police station chief, quoting the businessman Anowar Hossain, said some people on motorcycles surrounded him.
They shot him and fled with bags of gold and money.
A video of the attack has gone viral on Facebook, sparking widespread criticism.
The footage shows six to seven men arriving on three motorcycles surrounding Anowar, and attacking him with a knife and a gun.
The assailants took his bag and escaped within seconds.
Speaking to journalists at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Anowar said he had tried to resist but was shot and stabbed before the robbers snatched his valuables.
According to the case dossier, the robbers took away 1866 grams of gold and Tk 100,000 in cash.
However, after the incident, police, quoting the businessman, said 2332 grams of gold and Tk 100,000 in cash were stolen.
