PM Tarique will not move to official government residence at Jamuna

The prime minister will continue to live in his Gulshan residence as he feels comfortable there

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will not move to the official residence at the State Guest House Jamuna and will continue to live in his own house at Dhaka’s Gulshan Avenue.

Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman said, “Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will continue to live in his own house in Gulshan because he feels comfortable in that small house. That is why he has been living there since his return (from London). The house has been arranged accordingly.”

After the Ganabhaban, the prime minister's official residence in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, was destroyed in the student-led mass uprising on Aug 5, 2024, the interim government turned it into a museum. The interim government's chief advisor Muhammad Yunus used the State Guest House Jamuna on Hare Road as his official residence.

After new Prime Minister Tarique was sworn in, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works prepared Jamuna as the prime minister's residence.

But in the end, he will not be moving there.

The additional press secretary said, "The prime minister's state functions will be held at the Jamuna. Two Iftar programmes in honour of diplomats and scholars have already been held there by the prime minister. The prime minister's Eid greetings programme on Eid day will also be held at the Jamuna."

At 10am on Eid day, the prime minister will meet diplomats, prominent citizens and people from all walks of life to exchange Eid greetings.
