Motaher Hossain, a director general (DG) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), has been mugged near Dhaka Residential Model College in Mohammadpur.

The incident occurred around 10:30pm on Saturday, when three muggers intercepted and assaulted him, while he was taking a stroll after the Taraweeh prayer.

The attackers snatched away his phone, wallet, and watch.

According to the case filed over the statement, the unidentified attackers, armed with cleavers and samurai swords, threatened Motaher and made off with an iPhone, a wristwatch, and a wallet containing Tk 20,000.

The muggers reportedly beat the ACC official to extract his iPhone passcode.

They struck him with the blunt side of a sword and punched him in the left eye, causing injuries.

The muggers left only after Motaher gave away his phone password.

They used an autorickshaw to flee the scene.

Javed Hossain Sajal, an assistant district director and staff officer to the DG, filed a case with Mohammadpur Police on Sunday.

The case statement noted that the stolen phone was tracked immediately, and its location was relayed to the police.

A patrol team from Mohammadpur Police Station attempted to intercept the suspects on Tajmahal Road, but the muggers managed to escape on a motorcycle.

Motaher, a joint secretary previously attached to the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, took charge as ACC DG on Mar 17, 2024.

Mohammadpur Police chief Mezbah Uddin said the perpetrators have not been identified yet.
