Former state minister Nazrul Islam Chowdhury dies after battle with cancer

The freedom fighter and three-time Chattogram-14 MP has passed away at a Dhaka hospital

Former state minister for labour and employment and three-time lawmaker Nazrul Islam Chowdhury has died has died after a battle with cancer.

He was receiving treatment at a private hospital in Dhaka.

He died around 4:15am on Monday at Evercare Hospital, his nephew Bayezid Al Nahiyan told bdnews24.com.

Nahian said Nazrul had been undergoing treatment for cancer at the hospital for the past several days.

His funeral prayers will be held at 11am on Tuesday at the Kanchanabad High School ground in Chandanish Upazila.

A freedom fighter, Nazrul represented Chattogram-14 (Chandanaish-Satkania partial) after being elected to parliament 2014, 2018 and 2024.

He was appointed state minister in the government formed after the 12th national election in 2024.

He stayed out of public view after the fall of the Awami League government that year.
