A day after the BNP's landslide victory, a party leader in Panchagarh reportedly unlocked an Awami League office that had been shuttered, allegedly by Jamaat-e-Islami activists.
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media.
On Friday morning, the Awami League's Chaklahat Union office in the Sadar Upazila was unlocked with Upazila BNP chief Abu Daud Pradhan present.
During the event, the BNP leader also promised to stand by the Awami League activists and leaders in the area.
A one-minute-and-35-second video circulating on Facebook shows Kamruzzaman, the joint general secretary of the Chaklahat Union Awami League, delivering a speech while standing in front of the party office.
On the eve of BNP forming the government, the Awami League leader was seen speaking in the video, Abu Daud has performed his first act by “liberating” our Chaklahat Union Awami League office.
He said the local Awami League activists express deepest gratitude to the BNP leader.
“Jamaat activists had locked the office,” said Abul Hossain, a freedom fighter, announcing that the office would now be in the occupation of freedom fighters.
“There will be no Awami League activities for now,” he said.
Anisuzzaman Swapon, a former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader, also vowed to resist any assault on the national flag or the Liberation War.
“Our victory has come after 18 long years. Under no circumstances will the area's discipline be allowed to falter. This is not a party decision; I have taken this step solely to maintain peace and order in the area,” said Abu Daud.
