Two friends have died after their motorcycle veered out of control and crashed into a road divider in Thakurgaon town.

The accident took place around 7am on Wednesday in Munshirhat, according to Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station chief Md Monir Hossain.

The victims, both 25 and hailing from Rahimanpur Union of Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila, have been identified with their single names as Hrittik and Ashik.

The two friends had set out from home on a motorcycle heading towards Thakurgaon town.

Citing witnesses, officer Monir said the motorcycle was travelling at high speed when it went out of control while negotiating a bend near Munshirhat and crashed into a road divider.

Hrittik was thrown onto the road and died at the scene.

Local residents and Fire Service personnel rescued Ashik, who was critically injured, and rushed him to Thakurgaon 250-bed General Hospital, where he died shortly afterwards while undergoing treatment.

Sirajul Islam, a local resident, said: "They were riding at very high speed. The accident happened because of that speeding. None of us want to see deaths like this."

Officer Monir said an unnatural death case has been filed with Thakurgaon Sadar Police Station in connection with the incident.
