Bangladesh provides new homes to flood victims

“The prime minister spoke to the affected people and enquired about their families,” a spokesperson says

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has handed over the keys to new tin-roofed houses to people affected by the recent floods in Chattogram’s Banshkhali.

The prime minister visited the flood-hit area of West Banshkhali in Baharchhara Union around 1:20pm on Saturday and handed over the keys, his Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony said.

He said, “The honourable Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has inaugurated the government’s rehabilitation programme for people affected by the recent floods in Baharchhara village of Banshkhali. He handed over the keys to new homes for the affected people.”

“He spoke to the affected people and enquired about their families. He also planted a mahogany sapling there.”

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Asadul Habib Dulu were present alongside the prime minister at the time.
