US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen has visited Rajshahi's Puthia Upazila to sample the region’s renowned mangoes.
The ambassador arrived in Rajshahi with four members of his delegation around 9am on Tuesday, and visited Baneshwar Hat, one of the largest mango markets in northern Bangladesh.
During the visit, he spoke with traders and tasted several varieties of mangoes.
The ambassador said Americans love mangoes, but in the United States, they are often available in frozen form. It is not easy to find mangoes as fresh as those in Rajshahi.
Emphasising the importance of improving cold-chain logistics and storage facilities to boost exports, Christensen said Bangladesh could significantly expand its presence in international markets if preservation and export capacity were strengthened.
Local mango trader and orchard owner Monowarul Islam said the ambassador’s visit would help raise the international appeal of Rajshahi’s mangoes and support efforts to increase exports.
