Ex-minister MA Mannan dies aged 73

Former minister and Awami League advisory council member MA Mannan died of a heart attack in Chittagong on Monday after Eid prayers. He was 73. Mannan, a former labour minister, felt pain in his chest at around 9am during the Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at Jamiatul Falah Mosque and was rushed to National Hospital where doctors declared him dead, his son Abdul Latif Tipu told bdnews24.com.

Chittagong, Sept 21 (bdnews24.com) – Former minister and Awami League advisory council member MA Mannan died of a heart attack in Chittagong on Monday after Eid prayers. He was 73.
Mannan, a former labour minister, felt pain in his chest at around 9am during the Eid-ul-Fitr congregation at Jamiatul Falah Mosque and was rushed to National Hospital where doctors declared him dead, his son Abdul Latif Tipu told bdnews24.com.
Chittagong mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury, primary and mass education minister Afsarul Amin, state minister for environment Hasan Mahmud, former minister and BNP joint secretary general Abdullah Al Noman, and AL presidium member Ataur Rahman Khan Kaiser, among others went to the family home at Battery Goli, where the body is being kept.
Mannan fought and organised the war of independence in 1971. He was elected to parliament in 1996. He also served as Chittagong City AL president and general secretary for many years.
The veteran leader left six sons and two daughters.
His namaj-e-janaza will be held at Jamiatul Falah on Tuesday after Asr prayers.
