Dhaka-Mymensingh rail link resumes after 3 hours

Transport is restored at 7:30pm after a relief engine towed the affected train to Mymensingh

Rail communication between Dhaka and Mymensingh has returned to normal three hours after a fire in the engine of an intercity train brought services to a halt.

The disruption began around 4:30pm on Monday when a fire broke out in the engine of the Mohanganj Express near Aulianagar station in Trishal Upazila.

The route was cleared around 7:30pm after a relief engine towed the stranded train into the station, said Mymensingh Railway Police chief Akter Hossain.

Railway authorities said the driver of the Netrokona-bound Mohanganj Express, which had departed from Dhaka, noticed smoke billowing out from underneath the engine and immediately stopped the train.

The fire was later brought under control.

Train movement on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route was temporarily suspended following the incident.

No injuries were reported.
