Police arrest controversial health sector contractor Mithu

Police detectives have arrested controversial health sector contractor Motazzerul Islam Mithu.

In a press release on Thursday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) said: "Dhaka Metropolitan Police detectives have arrested Motazzerul Islam Mithu, a key figure in the corruption in the health sector during the Awami League rule’s, from the capital’s Gulshan."

However, the case over which he was arrested was not noted clearly.

The Anti-Corruption Commission has filed a case against Mithu of amassing illegal wealth worth Tk 750 million.

He has been accused of creating a "syndicate in the health sector and embezzlement and money laundering."
