A policeman has been arrested for allegedly possessing 50,000 yaba pills from near the Shah Amanat Bridge in Bakalia of Chattogram city.

Identified as Ashiqul Islam, the 30-year-old arrestee is posted at Khulna District Police.

Bakalia Police caught him early Tuesday morning near the bridge in the Bashiruzzaman Chattar while searching a bus as he was returning from Cox's Bazar, said station chief Md Solaiman.

The yaba tablets were found in Ashiqul’s bag.

A case has been filed against Ashiqul and he has been sent to court, said Solaiman.

On Dec 8, 2025, Bakalia Police detained a policeman named Md Imtiaz with 120,000 yaba pills from the same area. But they released him “secretly”.

Following media reports on this, a metropolitan magistrate filed a suo motu case on Dec 23, leading to the suspension of eight policemen.
