‘Robbers’ tie up five at Gazipur factory, flee with Tk 3mn worth of yarn, cash

A group of robbers has reportedly raided a knitting factory in Gazipur’s Kashimpur, tying up five security staff and workers before fleeing with yarn worth about Tk 3 million and Tk 150,000 in cash.

The incident happened after 3am on Friday at Mirza Apparels Limited near Boro Bhabanipur, according to police.

Police said the 10 to 15 robbers climbed over a wall and cut through a grille to enter the factory. They tied up five people, including a security guard, with ropes after threatening them with local weapons and foreign-made pistols.

The robbers then cut the factory gate’s lock and took about 7,350kg of yarn and Tk 150,000 in cash, according to workers.

Kashimpur Police chief Molla Khalid said, "We've inspected the scene. Since the factory's CCTV cameras were out of order, we're reviewing footage from nearby areas. Police are working to catch the gang."

Konabari Zone Assistant Commissioner Md Abu Naser Al Amin said no case had been filed as of 11:15pm on Saturday.
