Bangladesh begins shipping 240 tonnes of food to Kuwait as ‘gesture of solidarity’

The Gulf nation faces supply chain pressures amid the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz

Bangladesh has dispatched a shipment of food supplies to Kuwait as a symbolic gesture of goodwill to support the West Asian nation during an ongoing regional supply crisis.

The first consignment was handed over to the Kuwaiti government on Sunday at a ceremony held at Kuwait's foreign ministry, according to the Bangladesh Embassy in Kuwait.

A total of 240 tonnes of food is due to be delivered as part of the initiative.

During the event, Humayun Kabir, the special envoy and foreign advisor to the prime minister, presented the food shipment to Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The embassy said the bilateral aid represents an “expression of solidarity, harmony, and friendship from the people of Bangladesh towards the brotherly citizens of Kuwait”.

The assistance aims to fortify Kuwait's strategic food reserves and meet immediate requirements, especially since the prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz has severely strained the country's import logistics, it added.

The advisor also delivered a formal letter from Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed to the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

He conveyed Bangladesh’s wishes for peace, security and welfare of the Kuwaiti people, while reaffirming Dhaka’s commitment to strengthening longstanding bilateral ties.
