Registration for the Fuel Pass system has begun in 19 more districts as part of the government’s plan to roll it out across the country.

The Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources announced the expansion in a Facebook post on Monday.

The new districts are Gazipur, Narayanganj, Cumilla, Lakshmipur, Noakhali, Bogura, Pabna, Sirajganj, Bagerhat, Chuadanga, Jashore, Barguna, Bhola, Jhalakathi, Habiganj, Moulvibazar, Dinajpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram.

The ministry said registration activities started in those districts on Monday and that the system would be introduced in all districts in phases.

It also asked users to join the official Fuel Pass Facebook group to share feedback, complaints and suggestions.

The government launched the Fuel Pass system, saying it would bring greater discipline to fuel sales, strengthen oversight and make distribution more transparent.

In an earlier post on Apr 18, the ministry said the pilot of the Fuel Pass BD app was being expanded to include registered motorcycles in several districts and metropolitan areas outside Dhaka.

It also said the pilot was being extended to 18 more filling stations in Dhaka district.

That list included Dhaka Metropolitan, Chandpur, Chattogram, Chattogram Metropolitan, Barishal, Barishal Metropolitan, Khulna, Khulna Metropolitan, Rajshahi, Rajshahi Metropolitan and Mymensingh.

According to the Fuel Pass website, the system is a fuel distribution management platform aimed at bringing order and transparency to fuel sales through QR code-based identification and controlled distribution.

The website, however, says the system is still in the pilot phase.

The app-based service was launched on a trial basis on Apr 9 at Trust Filling Station in Tejgaon and Sonarbangla Filling Station at Asad Gate in Dhaka.

In the first phase, it was opened only to motorcyclists.

The government moved to introduce the digital system after long queues at pumps, fuel shortages, disorder in some areas and allegations of artificial crisis emerged following the war in the Middle East.

Energy and Mineral Resources Division officials said the system would improve transparency in fuel distribution, reduce waste and irregularities, and make supply management more effective during crises.

At the same time, mobile courts were conducting drives across the country over allegations of irregularities in fuel sales and hoarding.
