Ferry service on the routes from Manikganj's Paturia to Rajbari’s Daulatdia and from Aricha to Pabna's Kazirhat has resumed after it was halted due to dense fog.

The authorities halted the ferry service on the routes on Thursday to avoid accidents. Four ferries, namely the Dhaka, Enayetpury, Keramat Ali and Banolota were halted in the middle of the Padma River.

The ferry service resumed at 9:30am on Friday on the Paturia-Daulatdia route, said BIWTC Manager (Commerce) Abdus Salam.

The service was halted from 5am on the route.

Meanwhile, ferry service resumed at 9 am on the Aricha-Kazirhat route, said Nasir Mohammed Chowdhury, deputy general manager of the BIWTC Aricha Regional Office.

It was 3:30am when the service was halted on this route.

“Ferry service resumed on the Paturia-Daulatdia route after the fog thinned out. The vehicles waiting at the jetty are crossing the river using 12 small and big ferries,” said BIWTC Manager (Commerce) Abdus Salam.

After some ferries were halted in the middle of the river, no others set off the jetty to avoid accidents. Khanjahan Ali, a ferry coming from Kazirhat, anchored in the middle of the Jamuna River.

As dense fog shrouded the region on Friday morning, visibility dropped significantly on the river routes, said DGM Nasir Mohammed Chowdhury. Ferry service was halted at that time as it was very risky. Khanjahan Ali had to anchor itself in the middle of the Jamuna River, he said.

The anchored ferry has now started for the jetty after service resumed, he said.
