A motorcyclist and a pillion rider have been killed after an unidentified vehicle ploughed into the two-wheeler on the Dhaka-Bhanga Expressway in Shariatpur's Zajira.

The accident occurred on Saturday night in the Nawdoba area near the Padma Bridge toll plaza, according to Md Nokir Akram Hossain, chief of the Padma Bridge South Police Station.

The victims have been identified as Mohammad Ali Ontu, son of Golam Kibria from Savar's Hemayetpur, and Md Sujon, whose full identity has yet to be confirmed.

Citing locals, Akram said the motorcycle entered the expressway from the Padma Bridge service area in Zajira. A vehicle coming off the Padma Bridge rammed the back of the motorcycle at high speed.

"The motorcycle was mangled in the collision, and both riders died on the spot. Later, police from Padma Bridge South Station recovered the bodies,” said Akram.

The bodies are currently in the custody of Shibchar Highway Police, he added.

Police are preparing to initiate legal action over the incident.
