The body of a transport worker has been recovered from a pond in Khagrachhari Sadar Upazila.

The body was recovered from a pond in front of the forest department’s Sadar Range Officer, Sadar Police chief Md Kay Kislu said.

The dead was identified as 52-year-old Krishna Dey, who worked as a ticket checker at the Rangamati counter of the Khagrachhari bus station.

Police said locals spotted the body floating in the pond and informed authorities.

No visible injury marks were found on the body.

"Primarily, we suspect he died from excessive alcohol consumption," the police officer said.

He added that a strong smell of local liquor was coming from the body and a bottle of country-made alcohol was found tied around his waist.

The body has been sent to Khagrachhari Sadar Hospital morgue for postmortem.
