Former DIG Jalil Mondal arrested over 2013 Shapla Chattar 'killings'

The arrest follows a warrant issued by the ICT, police say

The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested Abdul Jalil Mondal, a former deputy inspector general (DIG) and former commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).

He was taken into custody from his residence in the capital’s Dhanmondi area on Monday evening, confirmed Shafiqul Islam, additional commissioner of DMP’s DB.

The arrest was made following a warrant issued by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in a case related to the alleged killings at Shapla Chattar on May 5, 2013, said Shafiqul.

At the time of the incident in 2013, Jalil was serving as the additional commissioner of the DMP.

He was later promoted and appointed as the commissioner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police.
