At least three people, including two women, have been killed when a truck hit an auto-rickshaw in Mymensingh city.

Two others were injured in the incident.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Khalid of Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station said the accident occurred around 11:30am on Tuesday outside a truck depot near the Shambhuganj Palli Bidyut office on the Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road.

Police and witnesses said the battery-powered autorickshaw was travelling from Shambhuganj towards Kishoreganj when it slammed into a truck that was pulling out of a depot beside the Palli Bidyut office.

A male passenger died at the scene, while the autorickshaw driver and three women were injured.

The injured were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared two of the women dead.

The third woman was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries.

The autorickshaw driver received first aid before leaving the hospital, police said.

SI Khalid said police were recovering the body of the man from the scene, while the bodies of the two women are kept at the hospital morgue.

The identities of the victims could not be confirmed immediately.

He said the deceased man appeared to be between 30 and 35 years old, while the two women were assumed to be aged between 25 and 35 years old.

The situation at the accident site was under control, and legal proceedings were under way, he added.
