Prime Minister Tarique Rahman laid the foundation stone for the National Disaster Management Research and Training Institute building in Gazipur.
The prime minister attended the event at the Sataish Chowrasta in Gazipur’s Dharpara at 2pm on Wednesday.
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, State Minister for Disaster Management M Iqbal Hossain and Secretary Saidur Rahman Khan and other officials were present for the occasion.
After laying the foundation stone, Tarique released fish fry in the pond on the institute premises and planted a tree.

The institute will be built on about eight acres of land near Dharpara. There will also be an administrative building and a residential building for trainees.
Describing the purpose of the institute, Minister Dulu said: "This institute will be established with the aim of creating manpower to reduce disaster risks through disaster management and training, conducting research on various types of disasters due to the impact of climate change, increasing the capacity of the people in disaster management, and undertaking related activities to mitigate disasters."
"Specialised training of relevant personnel and volunteers of all organisations related to disaster management will also be conducted through this institute."
The minister claimed that the institute will be established as one of the leading disaster research and training institutes in South Asia and the world.
