The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has brought charges against 11 police officers over “embezzling nearly Tk 40 million” from the ration centre of Jhalakathi Police Lines by creating 252 forged ration cards.

ACC Assistant Director Md Zakir Hossain lodged the case on Thursday at the Pirojpur Integrated District Office.

Those facing charges include ration centre’s former manager Alauddin; inspectors Arif Mahmud, Md Al Mamun, Md Rezaul Karim, and Kazi Rajiul Zaman; constables Md Atiur Rahman, Md Saiful Islam, and Mehedi Hasan; office assistant Md Towfiq, storekeeper Md Zahir Uddin, and sales associate Syed Jashim Uddin.

According to the case, the officers misappropriated Tk 39.44 million using the forged cards on multiple occasions between 2013 and 2023.

They have been accused under the Penal Code and Section 5 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947.

Jhalakathi district police chief Md Mizanur Rahman said the accused are currently posted across different districts and confirmed that the department would take action if the charges are proven.

The ACC added that any others found involved would face legal proceedings.
