Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud says the Election Commission (EC) will publish the gazette on Thursday declaring BNP's Sarwar Alamgir the elected lawmaker for Chattogram-2.

The decision follows receipt of the High Court's verdict earlier on Thursday.

The EC will then send the gazette to the Parliament Secretariat to arrange his oath.

Although Sarwar won the Feb 12 election, the commission withheld the gazette because of a legal dispute over his candidacy.

On Thursday, a High Court bench declared his nomination valid, clearing the way for publication of the result and his swearing-in.

Sarwar's candidacy was cancelled by the EC over a loan default complaint before the court reinstated him, while the Appellate Division had earlier suspended publication of the result pending a final ruling.
