Dhaka, Nov 6 (bdnews24.com) – Deputy inspector general, prisons major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui has got a one-year job extension a day before his tenure was to expire, according to unconfirmed reports.
Inspector general, prisons brigadier general Zakir Hasan on Thursday told bdnews24.com papers relating to the extension of tenure of Siddiqui had not yet reached them.
"Major Haider's job was scheduled to expire on November 7. I have heard that the government on Thursday afternoon decided to extend his service."
The tenure of major Siddiqui expired in November last year but the government extended it by one year saying it was essential for jail administration.
Major Siddiqui said he was yet to get the letter containing the president's approval. However, he said, he had heard about the extension.
More than 100 politicians including former prime ministers Sheikh Hasina and Khaleda Zia were sent to jail during his tenure.
