A Dhaka court has imposed a travel ban on BNP’s Chandpur-2 (Matlab) candidate Jalal Uddin and his wife and children amid a corruption investigation.

The order was issued on Monday by Vacation Judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun of Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judges’ Court, following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The restriction covers Jalal’s wife Shahnaz Sharmin; sons Saeed Mohammad Rizvi and Saeed Mohammad Alvi; and daughter Ayesha Tasneema Tanvi.

ACC Assistant Director SM Mamunur Rashid filed the petition, according to the agency’s Public Relations Officer Tanzir Ahmed.

The petition says Jalal is under investigation for “illegally earning money, transferring it to banks under his and associates’ names to legitimise it, and committing offences under the Money Laundering Prevention Act through overseas transfers”.

It warned that he and his family could leave the country at any time, and halting their travel is essential for a proper investigation.
