Police in Dhaka’s Keraniganj have recovered four bodies from the Buriganga River on Saturday.

Two of the bodies, a woman aged around 30 and a boy aged four to five, were found near Mirer Bagh.

Both had cloth wrapped around their necks, according to Sadarghat River Police Outpost.

The other two, a man and a woman, were found floating near Madaripur Ghat in Kalindi Union by personnel from the Barishal River Police outpost.

Investigators suspect all four were murdered.

Barishur River Police Sub-Inspector (SI) Moktar Hossain said they recovered the man and woman’s bodies around 7:30pm after receiving a call from locals.

“The man’s hand was tied to the woman’s hand,” he said.

The SI estimated the deaths occurred two to three days ago.

“Their faces are unrecognisable due to bloating. Their fingerprints are also unreadable because of decomposition,” he said. “They appear to be between 30 and 35 years old.”

He described their clothing: the man wore a red check shirt and trousers; the woman was dressed in a red salwar paired with a grey T shirt.

SI Moktar said forensic teams from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) are working to identify the victims.

The site falls under the jurisdiction of Keraniganj Model Police Station.

The station’s chief (OC) Monirul Haque Dablu said, “Their hands were tied together with the same rope. CID and PBI officers arrived at the scene after the bodies were recovered.”

BODIES OF WOMAN, CHILD

Earlier, around 12:30pm, the bodies of the woman and child were found near a cold store in Mirer Bagh.

Sadarghat River Police Outpost OC Sohag Rana said, “A burqa was wrapped tightly around the woman’s neck like a noose. The boy had a scarf tied around his neck in the same way.”

He added that although the bodies were found in the same area, there was some distance between them.

The case falls under the South Keraniganj Police Station, where OC Syed Mohammad Aktar Hossain said both victims are suspected to have been murdered. Their identities remain unknown.

The discovery site falls under the jurisdiction of South Keraniganj Police Station.

That station’s OC Syed Md Akhtar Hossain, said police suspect both were murdered. Their identities remain unknown.
